Question: Hi -

I have installed a second hand Mainsail from North Sails. It has a top full batten, 2 middle battens and a smaller batten close to the bottom.

My question is way is my bottom batten always bending the opposite way. What do I need to do to correct this.

Answer: Hi Helio,

I will do my best to answer your question. When you say the bottom batten is bending the wrong way, do you mean the back of the sail is falling to leeward? If so, perhaps the batten is inserted into the sail backwards. The stiffer end of the batten should always be pointed aft. If this is not the case, I would need a picture to see what might be causing this problem. Feel free to send me a digital photo directly and we’ll see better what is going on.
