Solutions for Cruising Sailors

Question:
Dear North, My Dacron mainsail is two years old and getting dirty. It is Dacron / mylar cloth. I have a citrus-based cleaner that has worked for everything else on the boat and would like to know if it is OK for cleaning the sail. It has no petroleum distillates at all and is environmentally benign.

Thanks,
Tom

Answer: Hi Tom, we have had good luck with citrus-based cleaners for dirt and light oil stains. It does not harm the sail fabric but you should rinse the area you are cleaning with clear water when you are through.

Dan Neri
