Question: Hi. I recently purchased
a beautifully maintained old Tartan 30. It is rigged with the Dutchman
system on the main. It works, but not all that well. My concern is that
the leech seems to get battered by the lower Dutchman line as it links
up to the topping lift. What would I lose from removing the Dutchman system?
Would lazy jacks work better?
Thanks,
Jim
Answer:
Hi Jim,
A correctly installed Dutchman system should work as well as lazy jacks
on your Tartan 30. If you are having trouble with the mono line and topping
lift hanging up it might just need to be adjusted. If you can take a couple
of pictures of it and send it to the guys at Dutchman they will likely
be able to give you a few tips on sorting it out. Try to get a picture
looking straight up the leg of mono line from under the boom.
