Question:
Hi there,

I recently purchased an Ericson 28 with an adjustable backstay. Under the seat is a well mounted electric winch with a guide that directs the cable and hook to the triangle. it also has a hand remote control for the electric winch as well.

I cannot find any info on power adjustable backstays.

Any light you can shed on this subject will be greatly appreciated

Regards, Eric

Answer: Hi Eric,

Honestly, I have never heard or seen what is described here. Does the tail of the backstay purchase run to the winch? The picture you provided shows what I would describe as a very conventional split backstay purchase system as shown in the Harken diagram (right).

They have some very helpful hints on the use of these systems on their website at: http://www.harken.com/rigtips/back.php

Please let us know if you need further help.

Regards,
John

Best of luck!
