Question:
I plan to return an Island Packet 31 to a cutter rig. I want to remove the staysail wire when not in use. Already have a tang on the mast. Would you suggest a detachable staysail wire or something different? Not planning to use a boom.

Thanks…Joe

Answer: Hi Joe

A detachable inner stay is a good idea, especialy if most of your sailing is in coastal or daysailing conditions. There are a few differant types of hook and turnbuckle products available for the deck end of the stay. Look for the most low profile turnbuckle so that the hanks are not too far off the deck when you load the inner jib.
