Question: I
am planning to buy a new RF 145% genoa for my Morgan 383 and received
a quote on a miter cut sail from Mack Sails. They claim that the cloth
panels are better oriented for the higher leech and foot loads. Another
sail loft scoffed at the idea. What gives?

Answer:
Hi Dale,
Different sailmakers use different panel orientations for their sails. Mitre
cut orientations split the sail with a seam bisecting the clew so the panels
can be lined up with both the foot and the leech. Not many sailmakers use a Mitre
Cut layout any longer but if Mack Sails is recommending it they must feel that
their designs work well with that layout.
