on June 20, 2004 by David & Linda Mott When you refer to battens not extending beyond the backstay, do you mean that the roach continues past the backstay, but the battens are shortened to reduce the effect of fouling, or do you simply mean that the mainsail does not go past the backstay (ie the battens go the full width of the main and neither go past the backstay). David & Linda Mott Answer: Hi David and Linda, I should have written that many customers choose to have the roach extend to just shy of the backstay. The battens always go right to the edge of the leech. Regards, Email North Sails with your question today! Go BACK to Solutions for Sailors Main Page.
