On this page you will find the specifications for North’s standard Class racing sails for the J/109. Because of the unique racer/cruiser qualities of the J/109, each individual owner will use their boat in a different way. Some owners will only race their J/109, while others will mix weeknight racing with weekend cruising. Still others have bought the J/109 simply to have a high performance cruising boat. To attempt to define one inventory for the boat would simply be a disservice to all of the owners. For more information regarding the full range of North products including Dacron and 3DL™ 860 carbon fiber, please contact North Sails' J/109 Class Development Program Leader, Jack Orr. |

I = 14.17 This sail is optimized for 0-15 knots TWS. It has plenty of power in light air and the shape can be easily adjusted by changing the halyard and backstay tension as the wind increases. This year we are adding a tighter Aramid scrim to strengthen the leech. FEATURES: Other Available Options: |

This sail is flatter in shape than the AP jib, but not as flat or smaller like a blade jib. So the boat will stay on its feet in heavier breeze and accelerate instead of heeling and sliding sideways. We kept the sail full size so that the sail will still have some power in windy, but lumpy conditions. This year we are offering North's new TC, Taffeta Core as an extra option for added durability. J/109 PHRF/IRC-OPTIMIZED AP GENOA I = 14.17 J-109 owners who like to sail handicap and point to point events will love this new addition to the CDP lineup. This genoa is based on the English class sail that dominated their National Championship. If you race in under 14 knots of wind most of the time, or you want better reaching performance, this sail is for you. FEATURES: Other Available Options: |

SPL
= 5.72 This AP sail is a race proven winner. It's fast at tighter angles in light breeze and loves to sail deep. When the breeze starts to fill in, ease the sheet and turn the boat down. The sail will rock out to windward with the maximum amount of projection, it has a big head and plenty of power. We have done a lot of sail testing, virtual and on the water, for sprit boats. This sail is result of all that hard work. FEATURES: 4A Class Spinnaker
