The Skeeter class is an open design ice boat. The only rule is that the sail can not exceed 75 square feet. World Champion Dan Clapp’s boat is 28-feet long, 22-feet wide and has a 26-foot tall rotating winged mast. He continues to be the most innovative builder in the class and his current iceboat named Insanity is the tenth boat he has built to date. “The ISA world championship in 2003 was very exciting and produced some awesome racing,” said Henry Bossett of North’s New Jersey sail loft, where all nine boats had their sails designed and built. “We built Dan’s sails with a Carbon/Kevlar composite to resist the extreme loads these sails experience when sailing at 60-80 MPH or more,” explained Bossett. “Low stretch sails are key because they are capable of traveling at over 100 MPH. North is proud to be a strong part of the ISA class and we look forward to increasing our market share in the future.” |
